A sad show to have to put together, but one filled with lots of joyful, uplifting music. Peter Tork, bassist, singer, songwriter, and, most famously, a member of the Monkees, died on Feb. 21st at the age of 77. Kofi Burbridge, multi-instrumentalist, keyboardist for the Tedeschi Trucks Band, went on Feb. 15th at the age of 57.
In addition to playing a bunch of music the two men performed, I mixed things up by playing tracks that inspired or were inspired by the sort of music they played. I don't mix things up so drastically as often on the show as I used to, but I love it when I do. In this case, the contrast between fun, British Invasion-style pop and gritty, soul and gospel infused rock is pretty dramatic. Two straight hours of the same thing, even for the biggest fan, can sometimes get boring. Besides, it's a lot of fun to make a show that's as eclectic as I can.
